Biochemistry is one of the most amazing areas to study, to learn about and to research in. Biochemistry can almost be viewed as a hybrid subject between Biology and Chemistry, hence the name. As an analogy, think of a microscope for a moment - in your early studies in college, you zoom in and learn a lot about the cell. You zoom in a bit more to learn about the cell structure, the organelles and their dynamic roles within the cell structure. Here, in the world of biochemistry, you zoom in EVEN further. You zoom in to such a level that you are looking at nucleic acids, lipids, proteins and carbohydrates....even to the level of looking at these at the atomic level. We will be building on the knowledge and understanding you gained in your career to date to look at these biomolecules in action....how they are generated, how they interact, how they are metabolised etc. Essentially, you will be looking at chemical processes in living organisms in this subject.
